Shout
at the Devil (My take on the great Motley Crue song)
http://www.jakegittes.com/songs/SATD-091105.mp3
I have been thinking about how I wanted to update this song
for quite a while and I finally got around to doing it the last
couple of weeks. (It is a little faster, a lot thrashier and
even has keyboards) This was also the culmination of a 6-9 months
learning curve on a new drum program that I bought. I can add
a lot more realistic details than I could in the past program.
(Although hopefully Phil will nullify the need for this program
soon) The cymbals are where I really hear the difference and
I actually have a full set of toms in this new program. (Which
I use more than a couple times in this song)
Now
we just need some vocals from Kevin “I score like Vince
Neil” Arceo and a guitar solo from someone other than
me (I took a couple of stabs at it but I am just an awful soloist)
and the song will be complete.

This
is new song I just finished. It is definitely a straight ahead
thrasher but I tried to change the song structure a little and
extend and contract it in different ways. (It doesn’t
really have a chorus per se, I am thinking it would be a song
where the last phrase of each section is the title of the song)
I am not sure who it sounds exactly like. It has elements of
the classic Slayer and Metallica but it doesn’t sound
like anything specific by either of them. (Which is a good thing)

I
had not listened to this in a long time and forgot how much
fun it was to play. This song has a little bit of everything
in it. The intro is a straight Death Metal riff which quickly
goes away and then the song locks into a tight groove. (Phil
start working on the double bass triplets right now) The interlude
with harmony guitars is definitely the best bass/guitar unison
thing I have written.

II
really like this song because it has a classic metal feel to
it but with all kinds of oddities (main riff is in 3/4 and the
verse riff is in 3/4 and 13/8 of all things, I know this means
nothing to most of you) The middle section on this would be
a lot of fun to play live. I imagine the lyrics in this section
would reference the band name in some way (ie Whiplash from
Metallica, Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden, etc.
